Stamped concrete gives a stone, slate or brick look in one slab. Inland heat shortens the time a crew has to stamp, so these pours are planned for early morning. We bring pattern and color samples to the estimate.
Stamped concrete is one poured slab pressed with a pattern while it is still soft, so it looks like stone, slate, brick or wood plank. Color goes into the mix or onto the surface, and a second accent color settles into the low parts of the pattern. People in Concord choose it for patios, front walks, pool decks and driveway borders. Under the pattern it is still a structural slab, and on clay it needs the same compacted base, steel and joints as plain concrete.
Timing is everything with stamping. The crew has a short window between too wet and too hard, and inland East Bay heat makes that window shorter. We plan stamped pours for early morning, size each pour to what the crew can stamp in time, and keep the wind and sun off the surface where we can. Joints are laid out to follow the pattern so they do not look like an afterthought.
A sealer protects the color and makes cleaning easier, but strong sun wears it down, so plan to reseal every few years. Sealed stamped concrete can be slick when wet. Near a pool or on a slope we add a grip additive to the sealer and pick a pattern with real texture. We show you samples of pattern and color before quoting, because the look is the whole point.
Stamped & decorative concrete in Concord: common questions
Does stamped concrete fade in the Concord sun?
The sealer wears and the color looks duller over the years, mostly from sun. Cleaning and resealing brings the color back. Color mixed through the concrete lasts longer than color that sits only on top.
Is stamped concrete slippery around a pool?
It can be if it is sealed smooth. We use a textured pattern and a grip additive in the sealer on pool decks, steps and sloped areas. Tell us where people will walk with wet feet.
Can you stamp over my existing patio?
Sometimes. A stampable overlay can go on a slab that is solid, level and not moving. If the old patio is cracked through or has sunk, the overlay will crack in the same places, and a new pour is the better use of the money.
