Plain concrete flatwork runs roughly $6 to $12 per square foot installed across the country in 2026. We do not post a Concord price sheet. Two driveways of the same size can differ a lot here once you count clay that has to be dug out, old concrete to haul off and how close a truck can get.
The dollar figures on this page are national ranges that HomeGuide published for 2026. They are not quotes from us. What you pay in Concord depends on local labor and material prices, access to the site and the clay under the slab. Last checked October 2026.
How much does a concrete driveway cost?
The national range for a concrete driveway is $6 to $15 per square foot, which comes to $2,400 to $8,600 for a two-car driveway. A plain finish is $6 to $10 per square foot. Basic decorative work is $10 to $15. On a Concord job, ask what the quote includes below the slab, since base preparation on clay is where low bids save money.
| Driveway | National installed range |
|---|---|
| Plain finish | $6 to $10 per sq ft |
| Basic decorative | $10 to $15 per sq ft |
| 20x20 (400 sq ft) | $2,400 to $6,000 |
| 24x24 (576 sq ft) | $3,500 to $8,600 |
How much does concrete cost per square foot?
Installed slab concrete is $6 to $12 per square foot nationally. Thickness moves it: $6 to $8 per square foot at 4 inches and $8 to $10 at 6 inches. Those figures take in forms, base, concrete, finishing and labor. Breaking out an old slab, importing extra rock and pumping are separate lines when a job calls for them.
How much does a concrete patio cost? What is a fair price for a 20x20 patio?
Nationally a plain patio is $4 to $12 per square foot, and a stained or stamped one is $8 to $30. For a 20x20 patio the published range is $1,600 to $4,800 plain and $3,200 to $12,000 stained or stamped. A plain 12x12 is $600 to $1,700. There is no published row for 12x20 or 16x20, so work those out from your square footage times the per-foot range.
How much does it cost to pour a slab for a 24x24 garage or a 30x40 shop?
HomeGuide lists $600 to $1,200 for a 10x10 slab, $860 to $1,700 for a 12x12, $2,400 to $4,800 for a 20x20 and $5,400 to $10,800 for a 30x30. It has no line for 24x24 or 30x40. Multiplying its $6 to $12 per square foot figure gives $3,460 to $6,900 for 576 square feet and $7,200 to $14,400 for 1,200 square feet. That is our arithmetic, not a published price. A building slab in California also has footings and seismic details from the plans, and those are priced from the drawings.
How much is a yard of concrete?
Ready-mix is $119 to $147 per cubic yard nationally, delivered within 20 miles. That buys the material at the curb and nothing else. Excavation, rock, forms, steel, placing, finishing and curing make up most of a bill, so a per yard price is a poor way to compare two contractors.
How much does it cost to remove and replace an old driveway, with the old concrete hauled away?
Take the removal figure and the new driveway figure together. Removal with disposal is $3 to $8 per square foot nationally, or $1,200 to $4,500 for a whole driveway. The new driveway is then $6 to $15 per square foot. When we replace concrete, breaking out the old slab and hauling it away is written into our quote as its own line.
How much does stamped concrete cost compared with plain? Is there an upcharge for color or stain?
Stamped concrete is $8 to $19 per square foot nationally. Compare that with $6 to $10 for a plain driveway or $4 to $12 for a plain patio. Published examples: $3,200 to $7,600 for a 20x20 stamped patio, $6,900 to $10,400 for a two-car stamped driveway and $800 to $1,700 for a 4x20 stamped walk. For color or stain on its own we found no published upcharge, so we quote that after seeing the slab and the shade you want.
How much does a concrete walkway cost?
A concrete walkway or sidewalk is $7 to $17 per square foot installed, nationally. At 4 feet wide that is $28 to $68 per linear foot. The average job is listed at $1,400 to $3,400. A public sidewalk panel in Concord also carries the city's encroachment permit fee.
How much does a concrete retaining wall cost?
The national average for a concrete retaining wall is $3,000 to $10,000. By length that is $45 to $270 per linear foot, and by wall face $15 to $45 per square foot. Hillside lots on the east side of Concord and in Clayton often need engineering, drainage rock and a larger footing, and each of those adds to the figure.
How much does a parking pad or sidewalk cost for a small business?
We have no published figure for commercial pads or lots, so we do not give one. For a small business the price follows the vehicle loads, the accessible path of travel, drainage and any permit for work at the street, and we set it after a site visit. A plain private walk can be estimated from the walkway range above.
I got three quotes for the same patio and they are far apart. Which one is right?
The right one is the quote you can check line by line. Quotes land far apart when the contractors are not pricing the same job. One has four inches on bare clay with no steel. Another has dug out the soft soil, compacted rock and tied rebar. Ask each for thickness, base depth, reinforcement, joint spacing, curing and haul-away in writing. Once the scopes match, the prices usually move much closer.
After demolition the contractor wants extra for a gravel base. Should I pay?
Pay it only if the contract allows for it or you agree to a written change. It is true that the ground under an old slab is hidden until the slab is gone, and wet or loose clay does need to come out. A careful quote names the base depth it includes and a unit price for more. If someone asks for extra for the gravel base with no paperwork, go and look at the open ground, ask how many inches and how many tons, and sign a change order before the rock arrives.
How do I know if a concrete quote is fair?
A quote is fair if it falls within the published range for that kind of work and tells you exactly what you get. Check for measured area, slab thickness, base and compaction, steel, joints, finish, removal, disposal, permit and cleanup. In California also check the down payment line, which the law caps. Then compare it with one or two other quotes written to the same scope.
